Beacon crash killed fisherman

4/09/2008 4:43:00 PM
A 40-year-old man died after crashing his boat into a marker beacon in South Australia's Spencer Gulf causing the cabin cruiser to capsize.

Police said the man's body was recovered from the submerged boat this morning after a search was launched late last night.

The alarm had been raised after he failed to return from a fishing trip off Port Pirie, north of Adelaide.

His boat was found among mangroves and police divers later recovered his body.

Police and officials from the Department of Marine and Harbours were preparing a report for the state coroner.
